Cycling has proven itself locally and internationally as one of the best marketing tools.
Yet few people seem to realise it.
OUTsurance has made an exception to the rule in the Tshwane Mayoral Ride taking place in Pretoria on July 29.
According to Salim Yusuf, president of the Pretoria Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the city has singled out cycling as one of the most important vehicles to highlight and promote ongoing and successful regeneration of the inner city.
He says a race in Pretoria will support the Deparment of Transport’s programme in promoting the use of non-motorised transport.
Most of the cyclists will be businessmen and the aim is to make them realise their worth in the investment of the city centre. As part of the programme the Department of Transport wants to give away one million bicycles between now and 2010.
The OUTsurance Mayoral Ride has the potential to become one of the most important races on the cycling calender. It could also rake in millions in income for the city.
The race starts at 08:30 and cyclists will start and end at the Pretoria State theatre.
The distances range between 35km and 77km and there will also be a ride for children. For online entries visit ww.cyclelab.com.
