Green light for flights

Gerhard Pretorius

Interlink Airlines received the necessary amended operation specifications from the Civil Aviation Association (CAA), which authorises them to commence scheduled services from the Wonderboom airport.
This comes after Rekord reported that the runway is not long enough for the Boeing 737 200’s that Interlink uses for their scheduled flights.
This regulation is set for the 737 at full capacity and maximum weight where it needs 2 773m to take off and 1 781 to land. The runway at Wonderboom is 1 828m long.
These figures are for ideal conditions at maximum weight in the Gauteng area.
After the payload issue was resolved, flights to Cape Town commenced on November 20 and flights to Durban wil start between November 27 and 30.
There have been numerous complaints from the community about the cancellation of Durban flights without notification on October 30 and again on November 20.
“I wish Interlink executives could look into my 3-year-old’s eyes when I have to tell her once again that she is not going to fly in a plane and she will not see the ocean tomorrow,” says a disgruntled Johan Pienaar.
He booked a flight and was informed the night before that the flights had been moved to a later date. He and his family were booked to fly to the south coast.
“This experience has not only cost me money but has inconvenienced my family, friends and myself,” says Johan.
